I have three ways of booking travel
- Through Expedia for TD (to earn points and redeem points for free travel)
- Through a travel agent friend (to support small business)
- Through Home Away or VRBO
I’m pretty strategic with how I book travel. I have a whole system to ensure that it’s a seamless and stress-free process. This is important as a single mom, who usually travels alone or with my daughters, and who is also on a budget. My top three ways to book are (1) through Expedia for TD (to earn points and redeem points for free travel); (2) through a travel agent friend (to support small business); and (3) through HomeAway or VRBO. In this article, I’ll explain why Expedia for TD is my favourite method for booking travel and earning points.
As a single mom, I need to be conservative with my spending since I’m the only one paying for our vacations. That’s why the points I earn with TD are so useful and valuable for me.
I use my TD credit cards for all my purchases (I only suggest doing this if you can pay the balance every month). I typically get about $7,000 in free travel a year, just by using my TD Visa Travel Infinite Card. All TD cards can be used towards travel, but the Infinite Card has the best perks.
Simplify & Streamline
It's a lot of work keeping track of everything going on in life. I have streamlined my life in so many ways, and how I book travel is no exception. I used to have multiple credit cards with a couple different banks. Now I have two: one for my business and one for my everyday personal life, and both are with TD.
This means I have one place to pay my bills online, I can track both balances and spending easily from EasyWeb, I can transfer my points from my business card to my personal card, and I can book all of the travel that I do myself through Expedia for TD. All of your travel itineraries are saved in your Expedia account. It’s so simple!
Why Expedia for TD is so awesome

Start planning your travel
Everything that is found on Expedia.ca or Expedia.com is available through Expedia for TD. It's essentially the same thing, except that by booking through Expedia for TD, you are accumulating extra points that you can redeem. If you don't have enough points at the time of booking, don’t worry! You can pay the remaining balance with your credit card.
That means there are no blackout periods. No restrictions. Just book your flight, hotel, car, or all three, and apply the points towards your trip. You don't even need to apply your points, you can pay with your visa, or use points and pay the remaining with your visa. Just by booking with Expedia for TD, you earn extra points.
Other travel points systems are not equal
I’ve tried countless points systems, including RBC, Air Miles, BMO, Aeroplan, AMEX, and more. None of these even compare to TD.
I use TD for my personal and business banking, and I really like them as a bank. But ultimately what makes me choose them is their amazing collaboration with Expedia so that I can earn points for free travel. YAY!
Points systems are complicated, most are a scam.
There is nothing negative I have to say about TD credit cards and their point systems. You’re not limited to using them for travel; you can use them to make purchases, or even put them toward your credit card balance! The points you accumulate are actually useful, make sense, and never go to waste.
You can transfer points to your other TD cards
If you have several cards, you can transfer points from one to another. In other words, if you have a business card and a personal card, transfer the points from your business points to your personal card before booking travel. If there is a balance owing after your redemption, it’ll go back onto the card that you're using for the redemption.
